Donations

The Southwold and Reydon Corps of Drums is a not-for-profit organisation that has been practicing and performing music in the lovely seaside town of Southwold, Suffolk for over thirty years.

When the band was founded in 1981 it was one of only a few marching bands in Suffolk. Today we are one of last ones left, which is why we are all the more passionate about continuing to play for another thirty years.

The Southwold and Reydon Corps of Drums is an integral part of Southwold’s cultural history, and we are very grateful for the wonderful support we receive from local people, businesses, organisations and the Southwold Town Council.

The costs of running the band mean that we are always in need of extra support, both practical and financial. If you would like to help with the regular or occasional running of the band, please get in touch here. Alternatively, if you would like to help us keep this wonderful musical tradition alive with a donation, please give whatever you can – it would be very much appreciated.

Donations made by cheque or cash can be left at the Stella Peskett Millennium Hall for the attention of the Southwold & Reydon Corps of Drums. Donations can also be deposited in our fundraising account with Lloyds TSB:

Our supporters

In 2009 we set out to purchase a full new set of parade instruments. Most of our instruments dated back to 1981 when the band was formed, and needless to say they were looking rather tired. We set a target sum of £10,000, which we thought might take years to raise.

We were quite prepared to lower our sights but much to our surprise, we didn’t have to. Within the space of about a year we raised £12,500, thanks to the immense generosity of the local people and organisations. With this we were able to also buy new hats and some other bits we hadn’t planned to replace. It was very humbling that we should be given so much money at a time of national austerity, and for this we are very grateful.

In early 2012 we decided that we wanted to provide the band members with an extra special inspirational trip to watch the Edinburgh military tattoo. We wanted our members to have the opportunity to watch world class marching bands in action, and hopefully bring some of their skills and displays back into our performances. We needed to raise £6,000 for this venture and in just over a year, we hit our target.

We are very grateful to every person and organisation who has donated money for either of these projects or the other financial commitments that have put us in the financial position we are in today, including:

  • Southwold Town Council
  • Southwold (Solebay) Lions
  • The Southwold Trust
  • Councillor John Goldsmith
  • Adnams Charity
  • Southwold Pier
  • Shops throughout Southwold who donate prizes for our tombolas
